This Active Life is an app developed by Red Lizard Studios that helps users find exercise accountability partners to improve users' health and help develop a community.
Our client had developed a beta version of their app and was looking to gain in-depth research of their users and understand how they experienced their current app.

Based on our interview we learned our client:
Was focused on establishing a returning user base
Needed feedback on usability and relevance of the product

Survey
We conducted an online 27-question survey covering topics from physical activities and accountability. This survey aimed to understand people’s preferences, barriers and motivations to work out.

Usability Testing
We conducted 8 moderated remote usability tests to identify the main issues with the app and synthesized categories users shared.

We covered scenarios that included onboarding/registration, searching for an event, planning an exercise activity, locating activities, building at team, viewing a created team, and checking the calendar.

User Interviews
After each usability test, we conducted a 10-minute interview with participants to understand how apps similar to “This Active Life” could impact their lives and what barriers and motivations would encourage them to exercise more often.
